Longtime board member succeeds Barbra Kingsley, who takes on leadership role as Chair of the International Plain Language Federation
RICHMOND, VA, UNITED STATES, October 20, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Center for Plain Language has named Casey Mank as Chair of its Board of Directors, succeeding Barbra Kingsley, PhD, who has been appointed Chair of the International Plain Language Federation (IPLF).
Serving since May, Mank, co-founder and principal of Bold Type, is in her third term with the Center’s Board of Directors. During more than six years with the Center, she has supported its work to advance clear communication and promote plain language across government, business and nonprofit organizations.
“I’m honored to step into this role and build on the work Barbra and so many others have done to strengthen the Center and advance plain language,” said Mank. “The Center brings together an extraordinary community of people who believe that clear communication makes information more accessible and useful. I’m excited to work with our Board, members and volunteers as we continue growing that community and demonstrating the value of plain language.”
Kingsley, owner of the Kingsley-Kleimann Group, served as Chair of the Center and will continue to advance plain language in her new role with the International Plain Language Federation. There she will help lead an international organization whose board brings together plain language expertise from more than 10 countries.
“Casey brings years of commitment to the Center, a deep understanding of our mission and tremendous enthusiasm for the plain language community,” said Kingsley. “I couldn’t be happier to see her step into this role. Serving as Chair of the Center has been incredibly meaningful to me, and I’m excited to continue supporting the plain language movement through my new role with the International Plain Language Federation.”
Under Mank’s leadership, the Center will continue to champion clear, accessible communication through education, professional development, the annual ClearMark Awards and other programs and resources for the plain language community.
At Bold Type, a women-owned training firm, Mank helps professionals communicate more clearly and effectively. Her clients have included Kellogg’s, Viacom Media, the Kauffman Foundation, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the Public Relations Society of America and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Her writing advice has been featured by Harvard Business Review, the Nonprofit Communications Report and the How to Be Awesome at Your Job podcast.
