More than 200 registered players and team representatives, along with families, spectators, and community attendees from across the United States, will gather in Hillburn for two days of women’s basketball, interactive sports experiences, athlete recognition, and documentary filming. The weekend will showcase Rockland County as a destination for women’s sports.

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY / ACCESS Newswire / September 29, 2026 / She Got Buckets (SGB), a nonprofit organization expanding access, visibility, and belonging in women’s basketball, will bring its 2026 North America Asian Women’s Basketball Tournament to Rockland County on October 3 and 4 at the Joseph T. St. Lawrence Community Center, located at 115 Torne Valley Road in Hillburn.

SGB’s flagship tournament and a major national gathering for Asian women in basketball, the two-day event is expected to bring more than 200 players, family members, fans, and other visitors to Rockland County from Los Angeles, Boston, New Haven, Chicago, North Carolina, New York, and surrounding communities.

The tournament is supported by Rockland County Tourism. The County’s tourism initiatives invest in events and organizations that attract visitors, support local hotels, restaurants, and businesses, and strengthen Rockland’s position as a destination for regional and national events.

Investing in Women’s Basketball and Regional Sports Tourism

By bringing athletes and visitors from across the country to Rockland County, She Got Buckets aims to advance three connected goals: investing in the growth of women’s basketball, generating regional sports tourism, and strengthening Rockland County’s visibility as a welcoming destination for women’s sports and community-centered events.

The tournament will also introduce many participants to Rockland County for the first time, creating opportunities for visitors to stay in area hotels, dine at local restaurants, and experience the County beyond the basketball court.

“This weekend is about more than competition,” said Nafeisha Aini, Fundraising Lead of She Got Buckets. “It is an opportunity to bring women together through basketball, introduce players and families to Rockland County, and show what becomes possible when communities invest in women’s sports.”

A Full Weekend of Basketball, Experiences, and Special Events

Tournament competition will take place throughout Saturday and Sunday, with multiple courts operating simultaneously and women athletes representing a range of cities, backgrounds, and competitive levels.

Saturday, October 3, will also serve as the “North American Asian Women’s Sports Experience Day”, expanding participation beyond the main tournament through interactive basketball activities, community engagement, and additional opportunities for women and girls to experience the sport.

On Sunday, October 4, SGB will present its “Say Her Name. Tell Her Story.” Special Event at 12:30 p.m. The program will recognize the government and community partners who helped bring the tournament to Rockland County, celebrate player and membership achievements, and feature storytelling activities.

The weekend’s theme, “Say Her Name. Tell Her Story.”, is designed to turn recognition on the court into lasting impact beyond it, creating greater visibility for women’s basketball, building confidence among participating athletes, and strengthening connections across the communities represented at the tournament.

Rockland County Featured in Upcoming Women’s Sports Documentary

Rockland County will also serve as the setting for the original short documentary “Say Her Name. Tell Her Story.” The film was created by She Got Buckets, produced by Jiaming Deng, and directed by Zhenyi Li.

The film will follow an SGB member through a day in her life before she arrives at the Rockland tournament, where she joins hundreds of other women athletes gathered through basketball. Players will be invited to face the camera, say their own names, and share pieces of the stories behind them.

Scheduled for release in late October, the documentary will carry the tournament, and Rockland County’s role in supporting women’s sports, to audiences beyond the event itself. Through footage of the competition, community programming, visiting teams, and the surrounding destination, the film will present Rockland County as the backdrop for a broader story about women’s sports, representation, and community reaching a national audience.
